Salford Quays panorama

Back in May I published on here a collection of my favourite panorama style photos. Since then I've been out and captured some more interesting locations in their full 360 degree glory.

Sometimes a scene just cries out to be captured in it's full glory, wide and detailed. In these situations I turn to photo stitching. I capture a sequence of photos (at 30-50mm) in an arc around my current location and later feed these in to Autopano Giga, a magical photo stitching application that does all the hard work of merging the images.

Around lunchtime on Thursday a pretty immense electrical storm rocked up to Manchester. From my vantage point of the 8th floor of Trafford House I could see that it would be worth setting up my Canon 500D in video mode on the windowsill. Sure enough, about 10 minutes after setting it up I caught on camera a cracking bolt of lightning striking the tip of Manchester United's West Stand opposite our office. The volume of the thunder clap instantly following made me involuntarily duck for cover as I watched out of the window. This gave my colleagues something to laugh about!

On Saturday I went in to Manchester city centre with some friends to watch the Pride Parade, part of the Manchester Pride weekend. This was sure to be a colourful and photogenic event so of course I took my camera. Even with the odd rain shower it was still plenty of fun.

Unfortunately we didn't get a brilliant spot (a small run-in with a pissed-up street urchin and her dog delayed us), so many of my pictures had heads in them from the crowds in front. If I go next year I'll be sure to go early and get a front-row position. View my parade pictures on Flickr
