the Big 2009 update!

Written 1 February 2009 on the topic of

Like I said, it’s been a long time since I last posted. This makes me feel sad. Various things have happened in this time so I’ve put together this grand update.

Working man

Work has been pretty groovy over the past few months. Back in October I celebrated my one year anniversary at Access. I wrote about this on the company blog. We’ve been working on some great projects with a lot more to come. You can find information about most of my online work in the Projects section of this site.

President Obama

Mr Obama got elected President of the United States, but unlike the rest of the planet I didn’t get hysterical.

The Germans come to town

Late in 2008 the Germans and other Europeans decended on Manchester to open the famous Christmas Markets. I did some light shopping, ate some bratwurst and drank some gluwine out of a mug designed by my friend, Mark Holland. The markets really bring an enjoyable atmosphere to town at that time of the year. Gets you all warmed up for Christmas. We also popped in to the incredibly disapointing North Pole Bar on more than one occasion :(

Christmas and New Year festivities

This last Christmas was more palatable than usual. Less arguments and schnapps vomit than 2007. Work took us to the car park of Manchester United to have our xmas do in a massive Egyption-themed marque. Scantily-clad dancers made me happy.

FireworksFor the acutal event of xmas I spent a few days down at the parents’ place, did some drinking with friends including Laura and Paul who had flown in from Canada and the US respectively. Taking full advantage of the early credit crunch sales I bought myself a new Camara, a Canon G9 at a bargainous price. By New Years I had got back to my place and welcomed in 2009 with Kieran and Andy in Manchester. A short tour of pubs in town, fireworks at Exchange Square and a miserable stop in Jillys. There are some pics from the event on my Flickr account.

Home page update

As I was bored this weekend I decided to poke around my website and fix things up. I’ve made some changes to the home page:

  1. TwitterDue to the recent hysteria around twitter (thanks mainly to Stephen Fry) I’ve redesigned how my tweets are displayed in the block on the home page.
  2. FlickrI’ve also added a new block with my recent Flickr photos. Clicking the thumbs will open a Lightbox popup but if you want to cruise my account there is a link.
  3. The list of latest posts now includes new project pages.
  4. I removed the ‘No Smoking Success’ block as I kinda started smoking again. Yeah I know…

Estonia here we come

Next week will see me and grand bunch of friends depart for Tallinn in Estonia (map). We’re flying out from London, Stansted at an ungodly hour of Wednesday morning. This means a roadtrip is on the cards for Tuesday night. With a bit of luck we’ll get there in one piece and enjoy five days in Northern Europe’s finest medieval oldtown, kipping in a classy hostel. I’m quite excited!
